Just wanted to let moms that are new in the area or that are trying to find other moms to talk to that there is a group that was recently started called the Fort Smith Playgroup! It is free to join and we have a great time letting our kids get to know each other and meeting different moms! The way to get to the web site is go to www.meetup.com and search for fort smith playgroup. Another way to get there directly is http://sahm.meetup.com/2411/
I hope this helps some moms! It is not age specific. There are all types of moms and all types of kids! But the kids ages range from newborn to 4 years old. And when we do weekend events some of the moms bring there children that are school aged so it is alot of fun. I am a new mother of a 5 month old little girl and I must say it has been a life saver for me to have other moms to hang out with and get advice from! And she has fun with the other kids. We also have moms night out about once or twice a month which is a nice break! Also if you would like to join please write about yourself in the profile section and where you heard about the group! We are trying to keep random people that are not parents from being able to join! To keep the kiddos safe! Thanks

Thanks so much for this info! I went and registered just now and it looks great so far. I've lived in Fort Smith for about 3 years now but I really don't know many other moms, especially not any with young children that my son might be able to meet. So thanks again for the shared info! :)

Amanda, I, too, registered for the play-group. I have lived in FS for almost two years, and I have an almost 19-month old. How old is your child?

Amanda, have you heard back from the playgroup? I signed up too, about a week ago, and I've not heard anything back.

Hey moms! I'm Erica and set up the Fort Smith Playgroup on meetup.com in August '07. It's almost 6 mos. old now and we're having the best time! I moved to Fort Smith with my husband when I was 9 mos. pregnant last year:) and when my son was 3 months old and the days and nights were running together:) I knew I needed to make some momma friends and get active again!! I've made some really good friends and it's sooo good for the kids to be able to socialize too. Although my son is only 8 months old now, I can see him learning and having fun just by watching and babbling at the other babies:) and the toddlers have already made best friends in the group that they look forward to hanging out with.. its so cute. All the moms are genuine and friendly, seriously! Come visit the site if you'd like to hang out.. and like they said earlier, we do want to keep the moms and kids safe, so you have to sign up to be a member and have it approved. Please add your photo and tell about yourself in the profile section..that just helps us know more about you and recognize you at upcoming events!
Cheree and Amanda, I haven't gotten to meet you yet, but hopefully will get to soon!! Have a great night,
Erica

Hi, Erica! As I stated to some of the other members, I am a huge germaphobe, and it will probably be Spring before I will feel comfortable taking Makenna into a group setting w/other kiddos. I do enjoy reading the other member profiles and getting to know what is happening (kid-wise) around Fort Smith. Hope to meet you soon!:)

so sorry I never replied to any of those comments. I must have had a blonde moment because I couldn't ever log back in with the info I thought I registered with and I couldn't get a reply when emailing about it. Anyway I reregistered.
I have joined the meetup group but I haven't made it too any meetings yet. It seems a lot of them are for kiddos a lil bit older than mine and until the weather clears up and we're not stuck in cold season I tend to hang around the house. I guess I'm a bit of a germaphobe. lol.
Hopefully I'll still be welcome when I am able to make it. :)

Hi, Amanda! I unregistered for the play-group. It just wasn't what I was looking for... I don't know if the playgroup emailed you yet, but they have a time-limit on how long you can be a member and not show up for a playgroup. (security reasons) I think the time limit was two months? How old is your little boy?

I'm really going to have to start checking this site more often. I feel so rude, I apologize.
My son is 16 months by the way. Also, do you mind if I ask what made you unregister from the group? I'm still unsure about it to be honest I'm not really sure how to explain why, although I am on the fence about the stipulations and such. On one hand I understand parts but on the other hand, I may be a SAHM but I'm really busy (we're remodeling our house :| and I am a mark rep.) and I can't guarantee a certain amount of time to a playgroup. But I really think Calen would benefit from the interaction so I'm still trying it out. :)

No problemo, Amanda. As you can see, I can be just as bad about posting. :)

I think your feeling of being unsure about the playgroup is exactly what I felt. Some of the things I read on the members site made me unsure about the whole thing. Did you ever go to a meeting?

What is a mark rep?

Hope the house re-model is going smoothly!

Hey, I'm having some difficulties becoming a member if this playgroup. I joined a couple months ago and I was real busy so I was unable to make it to any meetings then one day I got an email from Heather ( I think that was her name) saying I was going to be deleted from the email list and well sooner than the two weeks that I had to attend a meeting no more emails. i thought that it would be a blast but now Im not so sure I want to be a part of it since I was excluded before I was able to make it to a meeting. What do yall think???

After I posted a comment I read what others are saying so I guess im not the only one having a problem similar to you Amanda. Yeah im a sham who is very busy. My boyfriend owns a lawn business and I help with the paperwork and there always seems to be something to do. Also I workout at Mercy Fitness and the hours of the daycare are pretty much what time the playgroup meets

sjones, the playgroup has a two month limit on how long you can be a member w/o going to a meeting. If I remember correctly, it was for security reasons. I would say, if it is important to you, try to make it to a meeting before your two weeks is up, BUT, there are other outlets you could look into that don't have stipulations about going to meetings to be a member, etc. I am going to look into music classes and gymnastics for my daughter this summer. That way, she can get out some of her boundless energy, be around other kids, and have fun all at once!

Well, I thought I would get an email when posts were added to this topic but I guess it didn't work or I did something wrong... I don't know. :( Anyway, to answer your questions- I'm no longer a member of the playgroup- I was omitted. I did try to make it to one meeting but I arrived late and only kinda met one person. Personally I think the way they handle things is kind of rude and I was looking for a more positive and supportive group with other moms with active lives. I just didn't have the devotion to the group or whatever. Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be. :)
I would love to see this board become more active and participatory- it's nice to have other moms to ask advice and questions of especially being a new mom myself. :)
Thanks for the good wishes on the house redo. I need them! lol. In case you ever wonder- don't try to remodel your house and have a baby in the same years, unless of course you like a very slow drawn out process. :P
Oh, and a mark rep. is a person that sells mark products. mark is a company owned by Avon but it's a more specialized- boutique style, on trend line. The makeup is higher quality in comparison with brands like MAC, Lancome,Dior, etc. but without the prices. I love it! :D
Anyway, back on topic- I am really glad for this site. I think it's really great and I look forward to seeing it expand and talking more with all of you other mommies. :) Oh, and I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day even though that's a few days passed now. :D

OH and if you do find information on any fun classes for the little ones over the summer I would love to know about it if you don't mind sharing the info! I think Calen would love something like that now that he's getting a little bit older.

Yeah that playgroup is definately not meant for busy moms. I never made it to a playgroup so I got deleted. I thought that it would have been good for my little girl but I will try the gymnastics thing instead. Does anyone know what age that they start at for little girls? I have a very active two year old that definately needs to release some energy. I love Mark Make-up will you please let me know how I can get a catalogue from you amanda. Thanks

I don't know about the gymnastics thing, I know there was one that the playgroup went to regularly- I can't remember the name of it and I don't know if there is more than one in the area but I remember with that one it was something about the kids had to be potty trained to go.

I guess I need to check the calender on this site and see what's all on it but that was really the only thing I liked about the "group" was a way to know what kid-friendly activities were going on in the area. Maybe we can keep eachother informed on here, that would be great.

Yay! another mark fan! :P I love mark too much,lol-ooh and just wait until you see some of the amazingly cute stuff coming out right now! My site is http://along.mymarkstore.com/ you can look at the magalog there and if you email me at amanda.moohn@yahoo.com I will give you my number and stuff to call and order directly from me. You can of course order online as well but I try to give better deals to my locals. :D Oh and if you're interested my mark myspace is myspace/makeourmark. It's a fun little mark beauty page to check out if you're on myspace.

Anyway, back on topic ;) I say we all try to keep these boards more active and maybe we can have our own busy mom group here! lol.

Amanda, why did the group delete you if you attended a meeting?

Your house re-model in the midst of a new baby was like me selling a house, buying another house and moving to a new city while 6 month preggers. NOT recommended...

Gotcha, on the mark rep. :)

I agree with you about hoping the site has more participating members. It would be so beneficial to us all!

I think you are thinking of The Outback Discovery, at Flame Gymnastics, that the playgroup goes to. The phone book says that it is for kids 3-12 years. I don't get it, they musta had some bad poopy accidents at the outback to restrict the non-potty kiddos!

I totally agree w/u about the playgroup being beneficial as far as knowing what kind of activities were going on around town for kids. Myself and another mom have posted a few ideas for things to do under the forum "Fort Smith Moms Welcome Center" on the board. The info is under "Wild Things Farm". I think you have been reading those posts, Amanda, because I see a post from you there.

sj, I looked in the phone book and Flame Gymnastics offers Mom & Tot and Tiny Tot Gymnastics classes. I will definitely call about those, and I'll post what I find out. I am still looking into some sort of music class. The info. for that is more difficult to locate.

Talk to you girls soon! God bless!
