Growing Kids Sale: April 3rd - 5th, 2008

Got Kids?
If the answer is yes, then you've got to visit the Growing Kids Sale.

5 years, 10 sales, thousands of consignors and many more thousands of happy buyers later, the Growing Kids Sale is still growing strong. The Growing Kids Sale, a local children’s consignment sale held twice per year (Spring and Fall) was started 5 years ago by local mom Kim Hoelzeman and her sister, Faith Beeman.

About 10 years ago, the two began traveling to area consignment sales, Little Rock, Conway and Tulsa in search of the biggest and best deals to outfit Kim’s children for the upcoming season- for pennies on the dollar. They were also able to top off the huge savings with one stop shopping. Faith was single, and even then she was a real go getter with an entrepreneurial spirit. After several seasons of attending other sales, they both realized the need for Fort Smith to have its own sale and they began working together as a team, also bringing their brother and his wife on board (each with previous experience from running a sale in Bentonville). This team has successfully worked together to meet a need- for busy moms and their Growing Kids. They desired to create a consignment event where moms could not only make money on their kids clothing that they had outgrown- but could keep 70% of what they sold, compared to 40-50% in resale shops.

Kim tells FortSmithMoms.com, “A lot of moms break even or they make money- buying for next season and selling their children’s outgrown clothing at the same time. It’s about more than good deals. Moms love to get together, be with other moms. There is a real energy which surrounds the sale- everyone is excited to get their check and find deals on things they could not afford otherwise. You can also expect quality items at our sales. We do our very best to inspect everything before it hits the floor- we strive to be very organized so you spend your time finding the items you need, not digging through things you don’t.”

Not only can you find great deals on name-brand clothing, but the Growing Kids Sale includes anything and everything for children, from clothing and shoes to strollers, toys, cribs, walkers, infant supplies, bedding and even maternity clothing. Everything is sorted by gender and size to make shopping an enjoyable experience.

The Spring sale officially begins on April 3rd and ends on April 5th and is held at Kay Rodgers Park Expo Building. Monday and Tuesday are drop off days for consignors. Wednesday is “pre-sale” day especially for volunteers and consignors. Yes, you read that right. If you sign up to work a 4 hour shift during the sale or you sign up to consign- you get to shop before the general public. Thursday through Saturday the sale is open to public, with Saturday being half price day. Sunday is the day that consignors can pick up any items which may not have sold and pick up their check.

It seems like a lot of work, so we asked Kim why they continue to put the sale together season after season, year after year. “It benefits our community and meets a need- and it’s so much fun! We are also able to benefit some local charities with donations we make from the sales proceeds.” What's more to say, other than, see you at the sale!
