This rough, rowdy border town was the jumping off place into Indian Territory for outlaws, bandits and renegades. As the trolley winds its way through the Belle Grove Historic District, riders thrill to gruesome historic facts and eerie local legends. The tour guide points out real haunted houses, revealing their secrets, along with the story of a bloody love triangle. During its checkered past, prostitution was legal in Fort Smith. The first bordello to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places now serves as the Fort Smith Visitor Center. Blythe spirits and a variety of characters from the past keep tour-goers entertained for the one-hour ride, which regales stories from the National Historic Site, Miss Laura's Visitor's Center and the Clayton House, all located within downtown and the Belle Grove Historic District. The narrative is as colorful as Fort Smith's history. All proceeds benefit the Fort Smith Museum of History.  Reservations recommended. West End Amusement

The West End Park at North 2nd Street and Garrison Avenue is a real treasure for Fort Smith.  From the moment you walk through the beautiful stone entry you begin to feel the Fort Smith history. Take a ride on a Ferris Wheel from the 1935 World’s Fair and a hand-painted pony on the Italian-made Bertazzon carousel.  Snack on snow cones and hotdogs at the 1960’s style Leland double-decker bus or dine at the Nickel & Dime Diner housed in a 1950’s refurbished Pullman rail car. Listen to the antique calliope while you try your luck in the vintage arcade, featuring antique pinball machines.
