The Park at West End: 2nd Street & Garrison
This unusual amusement park near the river's edge is a fun way to get an aerial view of downtown Fort Smith from atop an antique Ferris Wheel. Take a spin on the hand-painted carousel then hop aboard the Nickel & Dime Diner for a good meal. A 1963 double-decker bus poses as a concession stand. The park, under new management, will now serve soft-serve ice cream treats like banana splits and milk shakes.
Friday nights will once again rock with their summer concert series. Call 479-785-4225 for more information.
Fort Smith National Historic Site: South 3rd and Parker Street
Visit the Federal Court of Western Arkansas where Judge Parker once laid down the law. Explore the remains of two former forts that sit atop a grass knoll overlooking Belle Pointe. Explore the jails, gallows and courtroom to earn a Junior Ranger Badge.
The site will present several free education programs this summer. Topics to be featured this summer are "Skins & Skulls," "National Trails Day," "Flag Day," "Historic Uses of Native Trees at Fort Smith" and "Traveling with Deputy U.S. Marshals."
Open daily from 9am - 5pm. 479-783-3961
