Memory Match Games
by Julie Jones
My daughter loves to play games and one of her favorites is memory match. Here I will show a quick and inexpensive way to make a memory match game at home. This is a great craft for your kids to do and it makes a great gift or party favor.
The first memory match game I made is a family photo memory match game.

You will need:
- Photos (make sure to get double prints for this game)
- Chipboard (found in craft stores in the art section)
- Patterned paper or cardstock
- Adhesive (I just used a glue stick)
- Scissors or paper trimmer
- Corner rounder (optional)
Step 1: Trim or “crop” your photos into a square. For this particular game I trimmed my photos to 3x3.
Step 2: Trim your patterned paper or cardstock and chipboard into the same size square.
Step 3: Attach your photos, paper or cardstock and chipboard together with the glue stick. You are basically making a chipboard sandwich with the chipboard being the filling and the paper and photos being the bread. (The reason I suggest using chipboard is to make your cards stronger. If you don’t put chipboard in the middle, the cards could easily bend and warp as the glue dries).
Step 4: (This is an optional step.) Use your corner rounder to round the corners of your squares. Also, if you have access to a laminator, you could laminate your cards to protect them from small sticky fingers and slobbery mouths! If you want you can also decorate the covers of the cards with a sticker or a stamp. I left mine with just the patterned paper.
The second memory match game was really, really easy and took less time than the photo match game. It is a memory match game made of felt.
You will need:
- 9x12 square of felt
- Self-adhesive felt shapes
- Scissors
Step 1: Cut your piece of felt into squares. For this piece of felt I got 12 squares. I did not measure, but if you are a stickler for perfection you could use a ruler as a straight edge for cutting.
Step 2: Attach the self adhesive felt pieces onto the squares
**Tip: If you look in the craft store, you can find lots of different felt and foam shapes. I let my daughter pick which shapes she wanted and she chose hearts. I also saw stars, bugs, circles, and squares. If you don’t like the self-adhesive shapes you see, you can cut your own out of felt or craft foam and adhere them to the felt squares using felt glue. It is very inexpensive and found in the felt and foam aisle.
