Everyday Kids Crafts

Bean Bag Game

By Julie Jones

This is a quick craft for kids of any age. These little bean bags come together very quickly and are great for little hands. The possibilities of game play with these bags seem endless. Some options are:

Toss the bean bag

Hide and seek the bean bag

Bean bag pillow or chair for your baby dolls

How close can you throw the bean bag to the target?

To make these little bags, you will need:

·         Fat quarter of scrap fabric
·         Dried beans (I used lentils)
·         Sewing machine or needle and thread
·         Needle and thread for sewing the top closed

Out of one fat quarter, I cut eight squares of fabric. I then sewed up three sides. Even if your kids are little, they can still help out. My daughter is four and she enjoyed pushing the sewing machine foot to make it go. She said it was like driving. If you don’t have a sewing machine, simple whipstitch around the three sides of the bag before filling it with beans. Older children can do this very easily. Next, fill the bag with beans. Again, my daughter enjoyed this part very much. Lastly, I whip stitched the top of the bag closed with a needle and thread. She’s been playing with those little bags for most of the afternoon. One of her favorite games is tossing the bag into a bucket.
