Sweet & Sour
April 29, 2008

It was a great day. No whining. A little crying at drop off this morning- but not much. Lots of hugs and kisses when I picked my son up at school. He ate a great dinner and loved helping me make cherry turnovers for dessert. He especially loved eating one piping hot with ice cream. A whole one. By himself.

No fighting or tantrums at bath time, or even when bath was over. Once PJ's were on, we were all playing in his room getting ready for lights out. I had told him earlier that we were going to try something new tonight. You see, he does not require much sleep- which means he stays awake until 10pm- what 3 year old would dare miss anything going on late night? My new tactic was to only allow a few minutes to his favorite television program and then we would read books, then... lights out.

He was excited- I was thankful. He immediately bypassed the television and went straight to picking out his book selections- 11 of them total. Thank goodness for short books. He picked out one of his favorites. It's a book I bought from Shutterfly called "My Family". It has really neat pockets on each page for you to slide your own photos into. I bought it for him when he was a baby and filled it full- one page for Mommy, one for Daddy, one for his sisters, one for Grandma and Grandpa and one final page for his Family.

He has loved that book so much it is practically falling apart. Needless to say, he wanted to read the book to us- not the other way around. So it began, he sitting in dad's lap, and I, sitting next to them. Page one is for Mommy. He began, "My Mommy is the best Mommy. She loves me and claps for me and hugs me." Now mind you, he is in "Mommy infatuation mode" these days- I mean he LOVES ME, and I love it. Even though he tells me multiple times a day how much he loves me, his "Best Mommy" comment got to me and I was tearing up- big smiles, thinking, "I have the sweetest most gentle boy in the world!" Until, he finished the page with, "and she farts on me and pees on me and diarrheas on me". Then he threw his head back laughing so hard I thought he was going to choke.

WHAT? What happened to my little, gentle, sweet, kind, loving angle? GONE! He's been replaced with 110% BOY. He's still laughing, dad is laughing hysterically- thankful that he did not have to endure "Mommy Love Fest 2008". My tears are all dried up and all I can do is shake my head until he begins to read the second page.

"My Daddy. My Daddy is the best Daddy in the world. He wrestles me and claps for me and he farts and poops on me". MORE LAUGHTER. Each page was started with such love and they all ended the same, with pee and poop and farts and diarrhea. No need to call SCAN people- rest assured we DON'T pee or poop or diarrhea on him- the thought is just beyond normal and well it's just GROSS. Ok... maybe his sisters do fart on him occassionally- but he gives as good as he gets and then some.

This I quickly realize is my life. Bathroom humor goes everywhere and if you need a laugh- well... just add a little fart. Instant funny.
