Boy Crazy

For Better or Worse

I had a crappy day last week. Not in the Top 3 Bad Days of my life, but bad. It was one of those days that leaves your head spinning with more questions than answers.  My husband, Matt was supportive as usual, telling me everything would be OK. When he got home from work, he sat beside me, put his arm around me, and said, "I love you more right now than I have ever loved you before." It was the perfect thing at the perfect time. I will never forget it.  There’s nothing like feeling truly loved and cared for.

That night, I was reading my Bible before bed. I went to a familiar passage in Psalm 139: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." After I put down my Bible and lay down, I found myself going to fearful and negative thoughts. I repeated over and over in my head, "Fearfully and wonderfully made, fearfully and wonderfully made... " And then the most amazing thing happened. I heard the voice of my husband in my mind, "I love you more right now than I have ever loved you before." Only it wasn't Matt; it was God. It was like He was sitting beside me with His arm around me, letting me know that everything would be OK.  No matter what news I had received that day, He would be with me and love me through it all.  The passage in Ephesians 5 that commands husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church came flooding back to me, and I realized that Matt had truly shown me the love of Christ in that moment. He put aside his own day, his own emotions, and just loved me. And because of that, I felt God's love for me as well in an incredible way at exactly the right time.
