Skin Care for the Mom
by Dr. Sandra Johnson, Johnson Dermatology

As a mom, it is difficult to do it all.  We all know that but yet we all still try to do it all and do it all well.  As far as skin care goes, there are too many products to try in order to use them all.  Also, in order to do it well or have good skin, one should not do it all.  I think a successful approach to skin care has to be one that is simple, easy and reasonable.  Skin care is my passion and I have studied many products and product lines.  After I find products or ingredients I like, I then try them on friends, family and clinic team members.  The skin care program that is considered to be the best among most dermatologists and skin experts is one that incorporates sub protection during the day to prevent damage as well as retinol at night to reverse damage.  My skin care program consists of the following.  My personal products or thoughts are in parentheses.

In the morning:

  1. gentle cleanser (green tea cleanser)
  2. SPF (SPF 45 with antioxidants)
  3. colored cosmetics

In the evening:

  1. gentle cleanser (green tea cleanser)
  2. retinol (Topix 10x)
  3. moisturizer/ peptides (Dermal Restructuring Therapy)

My skin care product indulgences include:

  1. Clarisonic skin brush (This was highlighted in July 2008 Women’s Health Awards by me and other dermatologists)
  2. Microplane foot file (I do not have time for a pedicure)
  3. OC Eight (Gives great matte look for events)

Replenix Fortified Exfoliation Scrub (I do not like most scrubs because they are abrasive to the skin.  This one is exothermic )
